Scott MacIntyre – Performance Profile, American Idol 2009 Season 8

April 8, 2009 by vongsundara

Listen, I like Scott MacIntyre. He’s a nice guy all around, but he stayed around in the competition far too long given his ability level. Especially annoying was the way that the judges babied him. Paula especially went out of her way to treat Scott like he had a mental illness. She even went so far as to change the tone of her voice when talking to Scott, almost like she was talking to a baby.

It was hilarious how in previous weeks Randy Jackson told Scott to challenge himself with bigger songs, haha. It shows how clueless Randy Jackson is at times. Scott did well considering his lack of talent, so I can’t be mad at him. I’m just more annoyed at the judges and the way they treated him like he was a baby.

Wow, Scott MacIntyre tries to go after a power ballad. It’s like he’s trying to garner more votes from “Vote For The Worst” readers. All of Scott’s vocal deficiencies come through, though a little more pronounced than usual. Scott missed the high notes badly again, and the judges finally noticed, haha. I don’t know what took so long. Scott’s falsetto was especially horrible.

Scott MacIntyre continued with his new look of all-black clothing and slicked back hair, which was a good choice. Scott’s guitar playing was really quite horrible, though. I do appreciate that Scott tried to take a risk and performing without his piano. All in all, though, the performance just was not up to snuff.

Scott MacIntyre did a good job of choosing an easier song to sing this week. He doesn’t have much vocal ability, so it was nice to hear him sing a song by a singer-songwriter. That being said, Scott still missed a couple of the higher notes badly as usual.

Scott MacIntyre’s hair was definitely a lot better than in previous weeks. Scott’s all-black outfit actually worked quite well. The hair was a little over-the-top, but I’ll take it compared to previous weeks.

Scott MacIntyre should not be in this competition. His talent level just is not sufficient to compete, and the judges are doing him a disservice by babying him all the time. This performance was a total disaster. Once again, Scott misses the high notes badly. The entire song was way too corny and not believable as being from a true recording artist.

Scott MacIntyre tried to mix it up by having singers stand around his piano. It was a nice touch but not enough to save his awful vocals. Scott’s horrible hair continues to wow me with its awfulness, and his terrible shirt and blazer were only topped by his tragic pink pants.

This was definitely Scott MacIntyre’s best vocal performance so far. I have never been a big fan of his (and I’m still not), but at least his voice didn’t crash and burn on his high notes like in the last couple of shows. He didn’t wow me, but he made the most of his vocal abilities.

Scott MacIntyre’s hair is a lot better than weeks past. I still think Scott should have his hair cut, but it’s definitely looking cuter than before. Scott’s leather jacket and overall outfit also work really well.

Scott MacIntyre is easily the weakest vocalist of the Top 13. The tone in his voice is not at all memorable. Scott also has a habit of missing badly on high notes. Tonight he did hit one good note in falsetto halfway through, but he then proceeds to miss the next high note badly. At least it wasn’t as bad a last week’s performance of Mandolin Rain when Scott missed three notes by a wide margin, not even close.

The stylists did not help Scott MacIntyre at all. The army blazer and undershirt don’t match at all. Worst of all is that the stylists didn’t even touch Scott’s horrible hairdo. I can’t take him seriously until somebody does something about his hair.

Scott MacIntyre’s voice is barely passable for this point of the competition. There’s nothing memorable about it, and he badly missed a couple of high notes. I hope this is the last time I hear from him, but I don’t think that will be true.

Scott’s look is as generic as you could possibly imagine. I pass dozens of guys who look just like him on the street every day. Maybe a makeover would help. Somebody help this man out with his hair please. His attire was really well chosen. I really liked the colour and the vest made him look great.

Scott’s stage performance was pretty good considering he can’t see the stage.
