Michael Sarver – Performance Profile, American Idol 2009 Season 8

Michael Sarver has a good voice but not quite good enough. Michael doesn’t have the goods to be a true R&B singer, though I suppose he maybe could have a career in country music, seeing as how a great voice isn’t exactly a requirement in that genre (sorry country fans, but it’s true).

Michael Sarver has a nice tone to his voice, but he struggled badly with his upper range in this performance. The performance came off as a little too weak for the subject matter, similar to his performance of I Don’t Want To Be. The ending of the song was also way too over the top.

Michael Sarver used the stage well, and his performances have become less and less horrible from week to week.

What a strange song choice for Michael Sarver. He’s doing a good job with all the lyrics. It doesn’t really show vocal ability, though. I guess he decided to have a fun performance tonight. Overall, not bad at all.

His outfit isn’t bad at all. I like that his collar is turned up on the neutral blazer. I didn’t really like the annoying harmonica player sitting up front; he got way too much attention.

I’m happy Michael Sarver gets back to his R&B roots with tonight’s performance. Michael has a very nice tone to his voice, and he started off really well during this performance. Unfortunately, Michael decided to avoid any high notes at all in his vocal arrangement. His performance fell apart halfway through the song when he decided to stay in his comfort zone when he had a real chance to go up a key, especially during the climax of the song. It made the performance incredibly boring but still serviceable I suppose.

Michael Sarver chose a nice black button-up and blazer tonight, very slimming. He still doesn’t look like a star, though he has the potential if he worked out. He has a nice face and all, so there’s definitely potential.

Michael Sarver absolutely demolishes this song and not in a good way. Other than a few notes, Michael is unable to keep pace with the song. I just didn’t feel this vocal performance at all. I liked some of Michael’s audition performances, but tonight his vocals were just not good enough.

Michael’s wardrobe and look were average but doesn’t represent what a performer should probably be wearing. Realistically, though, he doesn’t have the physique to be a breakout male star. His stage presence was rather horrible was well. There was a lot of hopping, painful facial expressions and overselling of the lyrics.
