Megan Joy Corkrey – Performance Profile, American Idol 2009 Season 8

April 1, 2009 by vongsundara

Megan Joy Corkrey definitely had potential as a true recording artist. She has an incredibly marketable look and a distinct voice. Unfortunately, she lost her vocals halfway through the competition for some unknown reason, maybe stress or overuse or both.

I don’t know what’s going on with Megan Joy, but there is definitely something wrong with her voice. Megan’s voice is shaky and has no breath support behind it. Maybe she’s nervous or is clueless, but she definitely has to turn this around if she’s back next week. The quality of her vocals has been drastically going down the last couple of weeks.

Megan Joy’s performance was terrible as usual. She started out as the worst performer with bizarre stage moves, and she hasn’t improved at all, which is unfortunate.

Megan Joy picked a pretty good song to sing, but she did not sing it very well at all. For some reason, she had no breath control or chest support to her voice, almost like she was trying to catch up to the song. It’s not like this song is all that fast either. It’s too bad because her voice sounded nice on the song when she was able to support her breath.

Megan Joy’s hair was spectacular, and she definitely looks like a real star. Her outfit was less impressive. I was getting a tropical feel from her look, which doesn’t really seem to fit with the song.

Megan Joy Corkrey delivered some good vocals tonight, though I think she didn’t maximize her potential. I think this performance would have been spectacular if she wasn’t sick. The vocal arrangement was original and suited her voice well.

Awesome hair tonight. I also loved Megan’s sparkly eye makeup and smokey cheeks. I still can’t believe that none of the judges ever mention Megan’s horrible stage moves. Sure, it’s cute on television, but Megan’s going to have to polish some of those moves if she wants to get taken seriously as a professional singer.

I can’t believe Megan Joy Corkrey chose to sing Jackson 5’s “Rockin’ Robin.” This song sounds like it’s from the 1920s. The overall performance was okay, but I have to give this performance a big zero because of the last two notes. Did Megan really sing “kaaaaaa, kaaaaaaaa” like a bird? It was waaaaaay ridiculous.

Megan Joy Corkrey’s stage moves are absolutely the worst of the entire Top 13. She is amazingly clumsy and her moves make her look absolutely amateur. She’d do better to stand still.

Megan Joy Corkrey looks really dolled up tonight, which I’m not sure her fanbase will appreciate too much. I myself don’t mind the outfit, as it reminds me of Valentine’s Day. I did, however, like her smokin’ hot look from her last performance a bit better.

Megan Joy Corkrey delivers a fairly solid rendition of KT Tunstall’s “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” although she misses the last note badly. Megan has a piercing voice that works well for this song. There are a few times, though, that Megan didn’t place any breath behind her voice, and it sounded like she was talking instead of singing.

Megan Joy Corkrey looks absolutely stunning tonight. Her makeup and hair are spot-on and much better than she looked in her previous performance. Her dress is cute too, but her long black pants don’t really seem to fit.

Megan Corkrey’s got one of the most interesting voices in the entire competition. From the first time I heard her in the auditions, it’s taken me until now to figure out where to place her voice in the music world. She did an all right job vocally on this song, but this is a song that tends to showcase voices to seem better than they turn out to be. She also gets a little bit shouty at the end and is shaky on the last note. We’ve heard this song sung by plenty of females in this year’s competition, and Megan’s rendition is definitely inferior to Arianna Afsar’s.

Megan is definitely a pretty girl, but her dress looked like it belonged in the maternity section. Megan’s stage performance was rather horrible. She did some majorly amateur-looking hip twists on stage. I can’t believe the judges didn’t point out how ridiculous this all looked. It was not believable as a real recording artist. I think if Megan saw herself on television she’d be embarrassed enough to change up and abandon that horrible dance.
