Felicia “Fo” Porter – Photoshoot Portfolio Review, America’s Next Top Model Cycle 12, ANTM 2009

I really enjoyed Fo this season. She came away as my early favourite, but her immaturity really came through a few episodes into the season. Fo’s inability to deal with a super-fabulous makeover was annoying. Fo got more and more annoying each week with her complaining, but there’s still something about her look that grabbed me.
Unfortunatley for Fo, her proportions are all wrong modeling. She’s too short and photographs short as well. Her personality is not enough to carry her through either. Fo did deliver some nice shots throughout the year, but I’m not sure how far she can go in the actual modeling industry.

Felicia (Fo) Porter, America's Next Top Model Cycle 12 ANTM 2009, Episode 11: Let's Go See The City
This is definitely one of the weakest photos of the entire season. I have no idea what Fo is doing with her body. I guess she was going for broken-down doll, but instead she channels model gargoyle.

Felicia (Fo) Porter, America's Next Top Model Cycle 12 ANTM 2009, Episode 9: The Amazing Model Race
I really like this photo of Fo. She definitely went a little over the top with her impersonation instead of going for a model’s pose, but I like the life and energy that Fo brings to the photo. Best of all, the clothes look really fabulous, and isn’t that the whole point?

Matt, Matt, Matt . . . what is going on? I used to love Matt Giraud, but the train has definitely left the station. I am very familiar with this song, so maybe I’m being a bit harsh, but I thought the whole performance was a mess. I didn’t like the arrangement or the vocals, especially in the opening verse.
Matt Giraud is back in his signature hat and suit. I’m not a big fan of the hat, but to each his own I suppose.

Bitter Joyful Emotional Random Tired Infatuated Angry Hopeful Solitary Healthy
April 24, 2009 by vongsundara · 2 Comments
Random thoughts for a random kind of day. I’ve gone through probably the craziest times of my Toronto life in the past few days. I haven’t felt so many different emotions simultaneously in years.
I started off the week determined but that determination switched to bitterness in a hurry. It’s the type of bitterness I was used to feeling in Calgary but haven’t felt since until this week. I’m absolutely the weirdest bitter person ever. I spent two days listening to angry Justin Timberlake songs like What Goes Around and Cry Me A River while screaming out One Republic’s Apologize while walking down the streets.
You see, I’m the type of person who allows himself to feel emotions as deeply as I can. I always find that this helps me move passed the negativity much more quickly. Unfortunately, this leads to a couple of days of extremely raw emotions. Lukcily for me, my close friends have gotten used to my hot and cold cycles.
A lot has been happening physically to me in the last little while. I haven’t been to work for a full day in almost two weeks and haven’t played sports for almost a month. I was definitely on a downward spiral and just barely hanging on for dear life.
Amazingly, I think that the events of this week allowed me to finally let go and hit the bitter rock bottom. Yesterday, everything seemed to turn around. I completely felt on top of the world for the first time in a month. I saw the ridiculousness of my bitterness (though it was fun while it was lasted). I willed myself back to work and back on to the badminton court. I wasn’t able to survive a full session of either, but it was important to get back on the track.
I spent this afternoon weeping while watching Milk and My Sassy Girl. Good lord, how many times can I cry in one afternoon. My face is still wet.
On the bright side, I actually had some fun flirtatiousness going on in the middle of my bitter march to rock bottom. I suppose a spring fling wouldn’t be the worst thing for me at the moment, especially considering I haven’t had even a sniff of a love life since moving to Toronto. It’s strange how everything happens.
Oh, and on top of everything, my mom is in town, my improv classes start tonight, and I have an awesome sci-fi party to geek out at before I go to bed tonight. It looks like the rest of my day is going to resemble the start of my week emotionally: completely damn random.
Anoop Desai – Performance Profile, American Idol 2009 Season 8
April 21, 2009 by vongsundara · 1 Comment
Anoop Desai had the vocals to compete, but his presentation was completely off. Anoop’s stage performances were dreadfully boring, especially given that he spends most his time on stage with his eyes closed. Ultimately, though, it was Anoop’s arrogance when dealing with the judges that turned his younger fans off of him and did him in.

Anoop Desai’s voice was boring boring boring as usual. I’m totally not digging his vocals. I don’t think I’ll remember this performance at all.
What on Earth is going on with Anoop’s facial hair this week? First Danny and now Anoop. This awful stubble needs to stop. He looked absolutely dreadful with the stubble combined with his grey suit and pink sweater (though I kind of liked the sweater if it were on its own). This weird preppy geek frat boy look needs to go away. Anoop’s stage performance was as absolutely sleep-inducing as usual. Dude needs to open his eyes when he sings.

Lil Rounds – Performance Profile, American Idol 2009 Season 8
April 21, 2009 by vongsundara · 4 Comments
I’m quite conflicted about my how I feel about Lil Rounds. At the start of the competition, the judges went waaaayyyy overboard with their praise for Lil’s performances, particularly her horribly shouty rendition of I Will Always Love You during Hollywood week. As soon as the actual competition started, though, the judges turned on her completely, giving her crazy random advice that she would incorporate the next week only to be shot down again and again and given completely new and conflicting advice. Lil took it all in stride and showed her class. I really do think that the judges went way overboard with the praise early on and with the criticism near the end, even when Lil had some good performances.

I wasn’t crazy about Lil Rounds’ vocals to start off the song. Lil sounded a little rushed, and the music drowned her voice out. Halfway through, she was able to project a little more and commanded the music. All in all, she did pretty well considering she had no voice the day before.
LIl Rounds once again changed her hair. It wasn’t a bad look at all with her simple black dress showing off her curves nicely. Lil used the entire stage and even went behind the judges. She was more animated than usual, which served her well.

Susan Boyle performance emotional but technically inferior? Susan Boyle’s “I Dreamed A Dream” from Les Miserables, Britain’s Got Talent 2009, West Lothian, Blackburn, Glasgow, Scotland

I should preface this by saying that I am definitely a fan of Susan Boyle. In fact, I teared up when I first saw her performance. The emotion behind her vocals were absolutely amazing. That being said, I thought it would be a good idea to take a step back and actually analyze her performance of “I Dreamed A Dream” and figure out why exactly it has been so successful in capturing the hearts of millions.

Supercute.ca blazes passed 10,000+ pageviews a month

When I relaunched supercute.ca at the start of November 2008, I was mainly hoping to recapture some of my past readership. The original version of supercute.ca launched at the start of my comedy career back in 2006 and became a fairly popular blog among the stand-up comedy community. In fact, it became maybe a little too popular, as I didn’t realize that there were some industry professionals reading my intimate thoughts, leading me into some hot water, but that’s a story for another day.

Natalie Pack, America's Next Top Model Cycle 12 ANTM 2009, Episode 8: The Amazing Model Race
Natalie’s hair and makeup were great in this photoshoot. The blown-out afro really gave a ferocious lion feel that worked well for the photo’s theme. The lighting was very effective in hiding Natalie’s wide face and gave her some extra dimension.

Lauren “London” Levi – Photoshoot Portfolio Review, America’s Next Top Model Cycle 12, ANTM 2009
April 15, 2009 by vongsundara · 2 Comments
I love London. It’s too bad that the stress got to her, leading to the extra weight. London’s face is spectacular, and she should definitely continue pursuing a career in modeling. She has all the natural gifts needed plus she’s only 18 years old.

Lauren (London) Levi, America's Next Top Model Cycle 12 ANTM 2009, Episode 8: The Amazing Model Race
This photo doesn’t really work. London’s head is tilted a little too high and her facial expression is much too exaggerated. London’s figure is totally out of whack as she has gained probably 20 pounds since the start of the competition. That in and of itself isn’t horrible, but London should not have posed straight on to push the point even more. Maybe a three-quarters view of the body would have helped hide some of the extra weight.

Scott MacIntyre – Performance Profile, American Idol 2009 Season 8
April 8, 2009 by vongsundara · Leave a Comment
Listen, I like Scott MacIntyre. He’s a nice guy all around, but he stayed around in the competition far too long given his ability level. Especially annoying was the way that the judges babied him. Paula especially went out of her way to treat Scott like he had a mental illness. She even went so far as to change the tone of her voice when talking to Scott, almost like she was talking to a baby.
It was hilarious how in previous weeks Randy Jackson told Scott to challenge himself with bigger songs, haha. It shows how clueless Randy Jackson is at times. Scott did well considering his lack of talent, so I can’t be mad at him. I’m just more annoyed at the judges and the way they treated him like he was a baby.

Wow, Scott MacIntyre tries to go after a power ballad. It’s like he’s trying to garner more votes from “Vote For The Worst” readers. All of Scott’s vocal deficiencies come through, though a little more pronounced than usual. Scott missed the high notes badly again, and the judges finally noticed, haha. I don’t know what took so long. Scott’s falsetto was especially horrible.
Scott MacIntyre continued with his new look of all-black clothing and slicked back hair, which was a good choice. Scott’s guitar playing was really quite horrible, though. I do appreciate that Scott tried to take a risk and performing without his piano. All in all, though, the performance just was not up to snuff.
